Conductor

Francesco studied orchestral conducting at the Royal Academy of Music (London) with Sir Colin Davis and Colin Metters, at the Accademia Chigiana with Gianluigi Gelmetti and at the Accademia Musicale di Stresa with Gianandrea Noseda.


In 2017 he will make is debut the Opera di Firenze, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, with Madama Butterfly, and will, for the 3rd time, return to New Zealand Opera, with Carmen. He will also conduct Nino Rota’s The Italian Straw Hat for the LTL Opera Studio in Pisa, Lucca e Livorno.In 2016 he made his debut at Cologne Opera conducting Cosi Fan Tutte, and at Kimmel Centre (Philadelphia, US) with Le Nozze di Figaro. He also conducted Mefistofele in Pisa and Lucca and Macbeth for the Accademia del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. In 2015 Francesco was at the Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice with La Scala di seta, and made his debut in the symphonic season of the Orchestre d’Auvergne in France.
Recent Operatic engagements include Il Matrimonio Segreto and Die Zauberfloete at the Teatro Regio in Torino, La Scala di Seta at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, La Boheme and Madama Butterfly at the New Zealand Opera, Barbiere di Siviglia at Stresa Festival, La Traviata and Italiana in Algeri at the Teatro di Como for AsLiCo, Le Nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni at the Teatro Verdi, Pisa, L’Elisir d’Amore at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, at the Teatro di Sassari and at the RNCM (Manchester). He is a visiting professor at the National Opera Studio in London for the Italian operatic repertoire.
Francesco is also a regular guest in the symphonic season of the ORT-Orchestra della Toscana, the OGI Orchestra Giovanile Italiana, the Pomeriggi Musicali Orchestra, the BBC Philharmonic in Manchester, the RNCM Symphony Orchestra-Manchester, the chamber orchestra of Teatro alla Scala “I Virtuosi del Teatro alla Scala”, the Orchestra Sinfonica di San Remo, the Orchestra Filarmonica di Torino and the Orchestra del Teatro Regio di Torino, performing with soloists like Boris Belkin, Francesca Dego, Bruno Canino and Marie-Josèphe Jude.
Francesco has been the assistant of Gianluigi Gelmetti, Gianandrea Noseda, Sir Colin Davis and Trevor Pinnock at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Opéra de Monte Carlo, Stresa Festival. In 2009 he attended the LSO Discovery Scheme, having the chance to conduct Brahms III Symphony in a matinee with the London Symphony Orchestra.
Francesco has been the Artistic director and the Principal Conductor of the OGU Orchestra Giovanile dell’Universita’ di Pisa from 2002 to 2008, starting his duties at the very early age of 22. From 2012 to present he is the Artistic director and Principal Conductor of the Orchestra Arche’ in Pisa.
He was awarded the “Diploma d’onore” from Accademia Chigiana, the “Gordon Foundation” and the “Henry Wood” Prize at the Royal Academy of Music. He has also a Magna cum Laude Master Degree in Philosophy at the University of Pisa, with a dissertation on “De l’infinito Universo et Mondi” by Giordano Bruno.
In 2017 the Governing Body of the Royal Academy of Music (London) has elected Francesco Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM), an honour reserved to past student of the Academy who have distinguished themselves in the music profession.
