Daniele Rustioni studied in Milan, where he graduated as organist, composer and pianist. He studied conducting with Gilberto Serembe, and postgraduate at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana, Siena under Gianluigi Gelmetti and at the Royal Academy of Music in London. In 2007 Gianandrea Noseda became his principal mentor and gave him the opportunity to make his debut at the Teatro Regio of Turin. At the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden Rustioni received Antonio Pappano’s personal guidance. Daniele Rustioni regularly conducts at the most prestigious Italian opera houses such as the Teatro Regio in Turin, La Fenice in Venice, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and at festivals such as the Rossini Opera Festival and Arena di Verona. In October 2012 he made his debut at the Scala with La bohème and was invited back for the Verdi bicentenary celebrations, conducting a new production of Un ballo in maschera in July 2013 and Il trovatore in February 2014. In March 2011 he appeared for the first time conducting Aida at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and has returned regularly since. Also in the UK Daniele Rustioni has conducted at the Opera North and the Welsh National Opera, where he returned in the fall of 2013 for an important «belcanto» project which included new productions of Donizetti’s Anna Bolena and Roberto Devereux, highly acclaimed by all the critics.
Daniele Rustioni made his debut in the US at the Glimmerglass Festival conducting Medea by Cherubini and returned for his debut with the Washington National Opera in March 2013 and for a tour with the Orchestra dell’Accademia della Scala in December 2013. He will make his debut at the MET in the 2016/17 season. During the 2013/14 season Daniele Rustioni debuted in Japan with the Nikikai Opera, at the Opéra National de Lyon with a new production of Simon Boccanegra, at the Bayerische Staatsoper with Madama Butterfly as well as at the summer season of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, at the Caracalla. The present season will see him conducting for the first time at the Opera House in Stuttgart (Nabucco), at the Teatro di San Carlo (both in Naples and at the Budapest Festival with Luisa Miller) and at the Staatsoper Berlin (La traviata), in addition to his return to the Teatro Regio Turin (new production of Il turco in Italia). In autumn 2015 Daniele will make much anticipated debuts at the Opéra National de Paris and at the Opernhaus Zurich, where he will conduct a new production of Il viaggio a Reims directed by Christoph Marthaler.
Daniele Rustioni also pursues an intense symphonic activity: in addition to his collaboration with the Orchestra della Toscana he has already conducted the best Italian orchestras including the Santa Cecilia Orchestra, the Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI and the Filarmonica della Fenice. He has also conducted the BBC Philharmonic, the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, the Helsinki Philharmonic, the London Philharmonic– where he will return in October 2016 – the Orchestre Philharmonique de Montecarlo and the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra in Japan. He will return to Japan in June 2016 for his debuts at the Hyogo Performing Arts Center and with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, and once again at the helm of the Kyushu Symphony. During the 2014/15 season he will make his debut with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra and the Filarmonica della Scala.
