Three-Year Jazz Double Bass Program
The advanced studies in jazz double bass take place in a three-year academic program, at the end of which students obtain the First-level Academic Diploma in Higher Artistic and Musical Education (AFAM), equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.
The three-year jazz double bass program at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole is led by highly experienced teachers. Under their guidance, students refine their technical and interpretative skills to approach the jazz language with a mature artistic awareness, which includes knowledge of the historical evolution and compositional models of jazz.
The training also includes the study of music informatics and a second European language.
Thanks to the school’s intensive concert activity, jazz double bass students have the opportunity to experience various aspects of musical life and consolidate the skills acquired.
The Scuola di Musica di Fiesole offers jazz double bass students a varied schedule of events, including meetings with leading musicians, in-depth seminars on interpretation-related topics, and encounters with authors of music-related publications.
Through the Erasmus+ program, jazz double bass students can study or intern abroad at prestigious institutions across Europe. They also benefit from the presence of foreign teachers from partner institutions who participate in exchange programs.
Switzerland is also an option for international study periods, thanks to the Swiss-European Mobility Programme (SEMP), which establishes partnerships between the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole and leading Swiss music institutions.
During the three-year program, jazz double bass students gain essential ensemble experience, performing in various-sized groups, from duos to large ensembles.
Studying with peers is an important opportunity for individual growth, allowing students to refine peer-learning techniques and develop improvisational interaction.
Concerts, recitals, and open rehearsals organized by the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole serve as opportunities for jazz double bass students to test their preparation and engage in a key formative experience for any musician.
Graduates of the jazz double bass three-year academc program find professional opportunities in the following fields:
