At the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, violinists have the unique opportunity to explore and experience music from the 17th and 18th centuries through a comprehensive course in baroque violin in which weekly individual lessons are combined with extensive ensemble and orchestral practice, providing musicians with numerous performance opportunities essential for their growth.
The pre-academic baroque violin course offers violinists a deep dive into historical and technical elements, aligning with the rediscovery of baroque instruments and techniques that began in the 1960s. Structured in three levels, each with corresponding exams, the course is enhanced by complementary subjects and equips violinists with the skills to play the baroque violin, characterized by its unique setup and distinct baroque bow.
For those seeking a flexible option, individual lessons in a non-curricular course which does not require exams are also available.
The baroque violin learning path emphasizes historical performance practices, which involve a different setup and the use of the baroque bow, notable for its unique construction, grip, and playing technique.
This course is thus directed to violin students who wish to broaden their musical knowledge by exploring the baroque repertoire with a historically informed approach. Non-curricular lessons in baroque violin are also available, without certification exams.
