Composition First-Level Degree (Three-Year Course)

Three-year Academic Program in Composition
The Three-year composition program is an advanced educational program for those aspiring to create new music and earn the First-level Academic Diploma in Higher Artistic and Musical Education (AFAM), equivalent to a bachelorโs degree.
The Three-year academic program in composition at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, taught by highly experienced teachers, equips students with the skills needed to express themselves in an original and coherent manner. The program places significant emphasis on theoretical studies and mastery of the main compositional techniques, as well as on the most influential musical languages from various historical periods. Particular attention is also dedicated to instrumentation, orchestration, transcription, and arrangement techniques.
Thanks to a vibrant and diverse schedule of concerts, including operatic productions, students of the Three-year academic program have the opportunity to explore the full potential of live performance and engage with its creative mechanisms.
The Scuola di Musica di Fiesole offers composition students many enrichment opportunities, such as seminars with leading musicians and meetings with authors of musicological publications.
In addition to hosting advanced courses, the school also organizes programs for children. This presents an intriguing opportunity for composition students to explore writing or arranging music for children through collaborations with foundational courses.
The Three-year composition program includes the possibility of studying abroad in several European Union countries or in Switzerland.
Through the Erasmus+ program, the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole has established partnerships with prestigious institutions across the European Union.
The Swiss Exchange Mobility Programme (SEMP) allows composition students to spend their mobility period at one of Switzerlandโs leading music institutions.
The Premio Veretti is an annual competition for young composers enrolled at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole. It offers composition students the chance to present their new works to a distinguished jury. The selected pieces are performed by advanced instrumental students during a high-profile public concert.
The best compositions receive awards in the form of significant commissions or publications by music publishers, and the audience also has a say in the voting process.
Graduates of the Three-year composition program have promising career opportunities in the following fields:
- Musical composition
- Musical transcription
- Musical arrangement
