Clarinet Second-Level Degree (Two-Year Course)

Two-Year Clarinet Program for the Second-Level AFAM Diploma
The Two-year Academic Clarinet Program at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole is open to young clarinetists who have obtained a First-level AFAM Diploma and wish to continue their studies to earn the Second-level AFAM Diploma, equivalent to a masterโs degree.
This customized study program highlights each musicianโs unique qualities while broadening their expressive awareness in a professional context. The program enhances both individual performance skills and the ability to collaborate in different performantive contexts, like chamber ensembles and orchestral settings.
Guided by highly experienced faculty members with different concert careers, students develop the artistic maturity required for a coherent and expressive musical interpretation.
The curriculum in the two-year academic clarinet program includes in-depth study of various musical styles and clarinet family instruments, allowing students to refine their technical expertise and develop a well-rounded understanding of performance practices. The program also introduces improvisational techniques, ensuring students achieve stylistic awareness and interpretative coherence across different repertoires.
Chamber music and orchestral repertoire play a fundamental role in the artistic and cultural development of clarinet students. Participants engage in ensemble projects within the Orchestra Galilei, an essential component of the schoolโs educational philosophy, which promotes collaborative musicianship.
To prepare students for professional careers, the program includes intensive study of orchestral excerpts and simulated auditions, offering hands-on experience with standard orchestra entrance exams.
The Scuola di Musica di Fiesole hosts masterclasses led by internationally renowned clarinet performers and teachers. These courses provide invaluable enrichment opportunities for clarinet students, complementing their regular curriculum with high-level artistic insights.
Students in the Two-year Academic Clarinet Program can participate in international study experiences through the Erasmus+ program (for Europe), and the Swiss European Mobility Programme (SEMP) (for Switzerland). International mobility allows students to explore new artistic perspectives and engage in interdisciplinary contexts relevant to their musical development.
The Scuola di Musica di Fiesole offers numerous performance opportunities at Villa La Torraccia and throughout the Florence region.
The most outstanding advanced clarinet students, as determined by faculty and the Artistic Director, are invited to participate in prestigious concert events. These performances are organized in collaboration with leading Italian music institutions, including the Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna, Fondazione William Walton in Ischia, Amici della Musica di Firenze, Societร Umanitaria in Milan, and the International Music Campus in Latina.
The Second-level Academic Clarinet Program is authorized by the Italian Ministry of Education, University, and Research under Ministerial Decree No. 1648 of 15/10/2024 (pdf Decreto)
