Two-Year Bassoon Program for the AFAM Second-Level Diploma

The Two-year Academic Bassoon Program at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole is an advanced training course designed for young bassoonists who have already obtained a First-level Academic Diploma. Upon completion, students can earn the AFAM Second-level Diploma, equivalent to a masterโ€™s degree.
With a personalized curriculum, the program aims to enhance each studentโ€™s unique abilities, providing both theoretical and technical training aligned with European standards and applicable in professional contexts.
Under the guidance of highly experienced faculty, students in the Two-year Academic Bassoon Program refine their advanced technical skills (breathing, agility, sound quality) and explore various musical languages to achieve a mature and distinctive artistic expression.
Consistent with the schoolโ€™s educational philosophy, which places great emphasis on ensemble music, the bassoon program offers students numerous opportunities to perform in chamber ensembles and orchestras.

To develop specialized skills in various performance practices and achieve a historically informed and stylistically coherent interpretation within different repertoires, students study musical languages from the Baroque to contemporary era, including improvisation techniques across different historical contexts.

The Orchestra Galilei, the ensemble dedicated to students of the schoolโ€™s advanced courses, provides bassoon students with the opportunity to study orchestral scores and hone their ensemble performance skills, a fundamental aspect of the schoolโ€™s teaching approach.
To prepare bassoonists for orchestral auditions, the program also includes mock auditions.

The educational offering of the Two-year Academic Bassoon Program is further enriched by the opportunity to attend masterclasses held at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole by internationally renowned faculty and concert artists. In addition to bassoon-specific masterclasses, students can participate in other courses to broaden their academic and artistic training.

Bassoon students can spend a study period abroad thanks to the schoolโ€™s participation in international exchange programs: Erasmus+ for European countries and SEMP for Switzerland. The program is further enriched by the presence of visiting professors from prestigious international institutions who also take part in these exchanges.

The Scuola di Musica di Fiesole organizes concerts both at Villa La Torraccia and in collaboration with musical associations and institutions throughout Italy, such as Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna, Fondazione William Walton di Ischia, Amici della Musica di Firenze, Societร  Umanitaria di Milano, Campus Internazionale di Musica di Latina. The most talented bassoon students (selected at the sole discretion of the faculty and the Artistic Director) are invited to take part in these performances.

The Second-level Academic Bassoon Program is authorized by the Italian Ministry of Education, University, and Research (MIUR) under Ministerial Decree No. 1648 of 15/10/2024 (pdf Decreto)
