Guitar Second-Level Degree (Two-Year Course)

Two-Year Guitar Program for the Second-Level AFAM Diploma
The Two-year Academic Guitar Program at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole is designed to train highly skilled musicians and guitarists. It offers advanced instruction to those who have already obtained a First-level Academic Diploma (or equivalent qualification) and wish to earn the Second-level Diploma in Artistic and Musical Higher Education (AFAM), equivalent to a masterโs degree.
The program covers the vast instrumental repertoire while also exploring lesser-known composers and works, encouraging students to develop originality in their repertoire choices.
Through an engaging and personalized curriculum, students refine their technical skills and instrumental repertoire, receiving training aligned with European standards. The program ultimately leads to the attainment of the Second-level AFAM Diploma in guitar.
The Two-year Academic Guitar Program delves into advanced instrumental techniques and fosters a deeper understanding of the musical process. Students develop expertise in harmonic language, dynamics, phrasing in original scores, and stylistic variations across different historical periods.
The performance practice curriculum is highly flexible, allowing students to tailor their studies according to their individual interests. The program covers various musical stylesโfrom Baroque to contemporary repertoire โ through monographic or anthology-based study approaches.
A key component of the Two-year Academic Guitar Program is ensemble playing, which is essential for developing listening skills, musical interaction, and body awareness in relation to the guitar.
Regular public performances are a fundamental part of the training, allowing students to refine their stage presence and musicianship.
Like all academic two-year programs, the guitar program offers students the opportunity to attend advanced training courses organized by the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole. These masterclasses, led by internationally renowned concert artists and teachers, enable guitar students to complement their instrument-specific training with broader musical experiences.
Guitar students in the Two-year Academic Guitar Program can take advantage of study-abroad opportunities through the Erasmus+ program (to study in Europe) and the Swiss European Mobility Programme (SEMP) for Switzerland. The programs also allow the school to host distinguished international faculty members, who can offer students valuable exposure to different artistic perspectives.
The most outstanding students in the two-year guitar program (as determined by faculty and the Artistic Director) are invited to perform in concerts organized by the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole at Villa La Torraccia and other prestigious venues in Florence and beyond.
Additional performance opportunities are available through collaborations with renowned musical associations and institutions across Italy, including the Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna, Fondazione William Walton in Ischia, Amici della Musica di Firenze, Societร Umanitaria in Milan, and the International Music Campus in Latina.
The Second-level Academic Guitar Program is authorized by the Italian Ministry of Education, University, and Research under Ministerial Decree No. 1503 del 14/11/2023 (pdf Decreto)
