Basic jazz singing course

Jazz vocality requires significant agility and a precise intonation, so jazz singing lessons for adolescents begin with the basics of jazz vocal technique and ear training. Through specific jazz singing exercises formulated by the teacher, students learn scales, arpeggios, and melodies, before moving on to the structure and sequences of chords.

The jazz singing curriculum delves into both the stylistic and technical aspects of jazz vocality. As the student’s abilities increase, more complex pieces can be tackled, and elements of harmony, scat (the vocal imitation of musical instruments with instrumental-like phrasings), and improvisation on structures are introduced.

Learning jazz singing means acquiring skills that go beyond jazz vocality alone. The course comprises three successive levels, which define the competencies reached in the jazz singing path and also include the study of ensemble music, complementary piano, ear training, improvisation techniques, harmony, and jazz history.

Upon completing this jazz study path, the jazz singing students at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole will have the necessary training to tackle increasingly challenging repertoires, potentially leading to admission into an academic jazz singing program.

Musical experience is fully realized only when it includes performance, as a moment of evaluation and sharing of the work done.

The jazz singing students are the protagonists of concerts, recitals and initiatives organized for them by the School, serving as formative experiences of great value both on a muscial and personal level.
