Baroque Violin First-Level Degree (Three-Year Course)

Three-year Academic Program in Baroque Violin
The Three-year Baroque violin program at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole is a higher education course that allows students to earn the First-level Academic Diploma in Artistic and Musical Higher Education (AFAM), equivalent to a bachelorโs degree.
Under the guidance of expert faculty, students acquire the skills needed to master the Baroque repertoire following historically informed performance principles, including the use of the Baroque violin setup, tuning, and Baroque-bow techniques.
The program also includes training in improvisation, music technology, and proficiency in a second European language. Throughout the three years, students gain real-world experience and validate their learning through performance activities organized by the school.
The comprehensive program at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole offers Baroque violin students numerous enriching opportunities, such as masterclasses with internationally renowned musicians, seminars on interpretation topics, and meetings with authors of musicological works.
Students of the Baroque violin program can benefit from opportunities to study abroad through mobility programs in which the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole particupates, such as:
- Erasmus+: The Scuola di Musica di Fiesole partners with prestigious European music institutions, enabling students to participate in exchange programs and benefit from the expertise of visiting professors.
- SEMP (Swiss-European Mobility Programme): This program connects the school with major Swiss music institutions.
During the program, Baroque violin students engage in essential ensemble practices, particularly with the Camerata Strumentale Fiesolana, an orchestral group dedicated to the Baroque repertoire. This ensemble allows students to delve into Baroque musical literature under the guidance of experienced faculty-conductors.
In chamber music groups, students have the opportunity to grow individually as musicians while confronting with peers during studying sessions.
Throughout the program, students participate in concerts, recitals, and open rehearsals. These activities not only evaluate their skills but also foster their artistic, human, and social growth.
AFAM Baroque violin graduates can pursue careers in:
- Solo performance
- Chamber music ensembles
- Baroque orchestras
- Baroque theater orchestras
- String orchestras
