Three-year Academic Horn Program

Pursuing studies in a First-level Academic program at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole is a valuable opportunity for young horn players who wish to earn the First-level Academic Diploma in High Artistic and Musical Education (AFAM), equivalent to a bachelorโ€™s degree.
The Three-year academic horn program at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole is a challenging and comprehensive program led by highly experienced teachers. Students refine their instrumental technique through in-depth work on breathing, sound quality, and various types of tone production. They learn to express their musical ideas with coherence and originality, while managing the emotional aspects of performance.
The advanced skills acquired in horn playing during the Three-year academic program allow students to approach the most representative repertoire of the instrument confidently, both in solo and ensemble settings.
The curriculum of the Three-year academic program in horn includes additional studies in improvisation, music informatics, and a second community language.

The vibrant programming at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole offers horn students the chance to participate in seminars focused on musical interpretation and to meet the authors of musicological publications.
The school also organizes a rich and varied concert schedule, providing students with opportunities to perform and consolidate the skills they have acquired.

The Three-year academic horn program includes the possibility of studying abroad through Erasmus+ (for mobility within the EU) or SEMP (Swiss Exchange Mobility Programme), which allows horn students to study at leading musical institutions in Switzerland.

The Galilei Orchestra and the various chamber ensembles composed of only wind instruments, provide horn students with highly formative experiences.
In chamber ensembles, students improve their peer learning techniques, while in orchestra they explore different languages of the symphonic, operatic, and solo concerto repertoire under the guidance of experienced conductors and teachers.

The Scuola di Musica di Fiesole views performance as an essential part of the training for young horn players in the advanced courses. Horn students are active participants in concerts, recitals, and open rehearsals, which are critical moments of both musical and personal growth.

Graduates of the horn program find employment opportunities as:

  • Soloists
  • Chamber musicians
  • Musicians in chamber orchestras
  • Musicians in symphonic orchestras
  • Musicians in orchestras for musical theater
  • Musicians in wind orchestras
