Three-Year Academic Jazz Piano Program

Three-Year Academic Jazz Piano Program
As an advanced-level training program, the Three-Year Academic Jazz Piano Program at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole offers students the opportunity to obtain the First-level Academic Diploma in Higher Artistic and Musical Education (AFAM), equivalent to a bachelorโs degree.
Students in the Three-Year Academic Jazz Piano Program refine their instrumental technique, develop perceptual and memorization skills, work on formal control of musical structures, and enhance their ability to interact in various musical ensembles.
By the end of the program, jazz piano students are expected to have acquired in-depth knowledge of stylistic, historical, and aesthetic aspects related to jazz, as well as strong improvisational skills and proficiency in music informatics, along with competence in a second European language.
The performance opportunities organized by the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole for jazz piano students further consolidate the results of their training.
Jazz piano students have access to numerous enrichment opportunities, including seminars on interpretation, meetings with renowned musicians, and discussions with authors of music-related publications. These activities are regularly organized by the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole for students in advanced programs.
Through the Erasmus+ program, students in the jazz piano program can study or intern abroad at prestigious institutions across Europe.
The Swiss-European Mobility Programme (SEMP) further expands these opportunities, enabling students to pursue study periods at leading Swiss music institutions.
In jazz music, the piano holds a central role: besides solo performance, jazz pianists engage in ensembles of various sizes and compositions.
Students in the Three-Year Academic Jazz Piano Program gain experience in different group settings, which provides valuable individual growth and helps refine peer-learning and improvisational interaction techniques.
Jazz piano students actively participate in concerts, recitals, and open rehearsals, which are an integral part of the training at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole. These events serve as key educational moments, fostering both musical and professional growth.
Graduates of the Three-Year Academic Jazz Piano Program find professional opportunities in the following fields:
- Jazz and popular solo instrumentalist
- Instrumentalist in jazz and popular music groups
