Viola First-Level Degree (Three-Year Course)

Three-year Academic Viola Program
By enrolling in the triennial viola program at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, aspiring violists undertake advanced studies that culminate in a First-level AFAM Academic Diploma, equivalent to a bachelorโs degree.
Under the guidance of experienced teachers, the triennial viola program helps students refine their technical and expressive skills, exploring the viola repertoire with increasing interpretative depth. The curriculum integrates instrumental practice with theoretical studies, covering historical evolution, compositional forms, and stylistic distinctions in musical performance.
Students also study improvisation, music technology, and a second community language. Students ot the Three-year academic program in viola who are interested in music education have the opportunity to participate in internships within the schoolโs foundational courses.
The Three-year academic program in viola is enriched by opportunities to interact with leading musicians during regular seminars on interpretative themes organized by the school. The Scuolaโs active concert programming also allows students to experience various facets of musical life, solidifying and testing their individual competencies.
Viola students can benefit from study abroad opportunities through the Erasmus+ program, attending prestigious institutions across the European Union. For Swiss mobility, the SEMP (Swiss-European Mobility Programme) offers similar advantages, placing the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole among the partner institutions of Switzerlandโs top musical academies.
The viola program includes extensive ensemble and orchestral experience. Students participate in ensembles such as the Orchestra Galilei and the Camerata Strumentale Fiesolana and chamber groups, including quartets and ensembles with piano.
Through collaboration with peers within chamber groups, students improve their skills in preparation for lessons and concerts. Orchestral activities expose students to diverse repertoires, including symphonic works and concertos with solo instruments, under the mentorship of experienced teachers.
Throughout the program, students perform in concerts, recitals, and open rehearsals. These experiences are key to the Scuolaโs educational philosophy, offering both musical and personal growth.
Graduates of the viola program can pursue careers in:
- Solo performance
- Chamber ensembles
- Chamber orchestras
- Symphonic orchestras
- Theater orchestras
