Double Bass First-Level Degree (Three-Year Course)

Three-year Academic Program in Double Bass
The advanced studies in double bass at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole are conducted through the Three-year academic program. Upon completion, double bass students earn the First-level Academic Diploma in Higher Artistic and Musical Education (AFAM), equivalent to a bachelorโs degree.
The educational pathway of the Three-year double bass program at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole is entrusted to highly experienced teachers, with well-structured and engaging curricula. Throughout the Three-year program, students pursuing the AFAM diploma in double bass enhance their technical and interpretative skills, enabling them to approach the instrumental repertoire with a mature artistic awareness, which includes knowledge of the historical evolution and compositional models of musical language.
The advanced courseโs educational objectives also include developing skills in improvisation, music technology, and proficiency in a second European language.
Valuable opportunities to meet leading musicians and participate in seminars on interpretative topics complement the study plan for students in the Three-year academic double bass program.
The Scuola di Musica di Fiesole also offers a rich program of courses for children, thus providing students in the bachelorโs double bass program with the chance to gain teaching experience through internships and collaborative activities.
The schoolโs extensive concert activity allows double bass students to explore various aspects of musical performance, contributing to the consolidation and practical application of their acquired skills.
The Erasmus+ program enables double bass students to study abroad in European Union countries and benefit from the presence of renowned foreign teachers at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, which has established partnerships with prominent institutions in the EU.
Switzerland is also an option for study abroad, thanks to the schoolโs participation in the SEMP (Swiss Exchange Mobility Programme), which connects the Scuola to Switzerlandโs leading musical institutions.
During the Three-year program, double bass students gain critical experience in ensemble practice, with special attention given to orchestral groups dedicated to academic courses, such as the Orchestra Galilei and the Camerata Strumentale Fiesolana, as well as chamber groups.
Orchestral activities cover a wide range of symphonic repertoire and concertos for solo instruments under the guidance of highly experienced teachers.
Collaboration with peers during ensemble rehearsals is an important opportunity for individual growth, allowing students to hone their skills through mutual learning and teamwork.
At the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, performance activities are considered an essential part of education at all levels. Concerts, recitals, and open rehearsals provide significant opportunities for artistic and relational growth for advanced double bass students, helping them assess and refine their preparation.
