Harpsichord and Historical Keyboards First-Level Degree (Three-Year Course)

Three-year Academic Program in Harpsichord and Historical Keyboards
The Three-year academic program in harpsichord and historical keyboards at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole provides young musicians with the opportunity to earn the First-level Academic Diploma in Higher Artistic and Musical Education (AFAM), equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.
The curriculum of the harpsichord and historical keyboards program at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole is both stimulating and demanding, aiming to foster the artistic maturity of young harpsichordists. Students deepen their understanding of the historical development of the harpsichord and other historical keyboards, their role within performance practices, and the compositional models of musical language across various European countries from the Baroque era to the 19th century.
The course objectives include developing skills in ornamentation, improvisation, music technology, and proficiency in a second European language.
The curriculum of the Three-year harpsichord program benefits from the dynamic activity of the Early Music Department at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, as well as from the numerous initiatives organized by the school, such as interpretative workshops and meetings with authors of musicological publications.
Students enrolled in the Three-year harpsichord program can spend a period of study abroad in various European Union countries through the Erasmus+ program, in which the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole participates. Alternatively they can choose Switzerland, thanks to the Swiss Exchange Mobility Programme (SEMP), which facilitates exchanges between the school and leading Swiss music institutions.
The Camerata Strumentale Fiesolana is the ensemble dedicated to Baroque repertoire at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole. In this and other chamber groups, harpsichord students gain valuable ensemble experience, an area of particular focus for the school.
Recitals, concerts, and open rehearsals are a cornerstone of the educational experience for young harpsichordists at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, offering them significant opportunities for both musical and personal growth.
The professional opportunities for graduates of the Three-year harpsichord program are diverse:
- Solo instrumentalist
- Instrumentalist in early music ensembles

- Instrumentalist in chamber orchestras
- Instrumentalist in symphony orchestras
- Instrumentalist in orchestras for musical theatre
