Voice Second-Level Degree (Two-Year Course)

Two-Year Voice Program for the Second-Level AFAM Diploma
Young singers who have obtained a First-level Academic Diploma can enroll in the Two-year Academic Voice Program, which provides training aligned with European standards.
At the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, students in the Two-year Academic Voice Program develop specialized professional skills, culminating in the attainment of a Second-level AFAM Diploma, equivalent to a masterโs degree.
The program offers a personalized study path designed to highlight each studentโs unique qualities. Through the exploration of various musical styles, students refine their technical skills โ such as breath control, vocal emission quality, agility, and power โ while also deepening their understanding of harmonic language, focusing on dynamics and phrasing in original scores. This approach enhances their expressive and interpretative awareness, allowing them to develop stylistically coherent and effective artistic ideas.
Guided by highly experienced teachers with diverse concert careers, students work towards achieving artistic maturity, essential for delivering a cohesive and communicative interpretation.
The program is designed not only to enhance individual abilities but also to develop the capacity to engage in different musical settings, including chamber music, choral works, and operatic repertoire.
The Two-year Academic Voice Program provides in-depth study of specialized performance practices, covering a wide range of musical styles from Baroque to contemporary repertoire. The aim is to equip students with the necessary tools for a stylistically and historically informed interpretation of each repertoire, including the study of improvisation techniques across different historical periods.
Students in the Two-year Academic Voice Program actively participate in ensemble activities, refine their skills in chamber and choral music, and explore various aspects of musical theater. Thanks to the schoolโs dynamic artistic programming, voice students are involved in specially curated projects each year, offering valuable opportunities for artistic growth.
The Scuola di Musica di Fiesole offers a wide range of advanced training courses led by internationally renowned performers and teachers. Advanced voice students have the opportunity to attend these masterclasses across all disciplines, further enriching their studies.
International study opportunities are available to students in the Two-year Academic Voice Program through:
- the Erasmus+ program (for Europe);
- the Swiss European Mobility Programme (SEMP) (for Switzerland).
By studying at a partner institution abroad, students gain exposure to unfamiliar musical and interdisciplinary contexts, broadening their perspectives within their field of study.
The most outstanding students in the two-year voice program (as determined by faculty and the Artistic Director) will be invited to participate in concerts organized by the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole.
These performances take place both at Villa La Torraccia and in prestigious venues in Florence and beyond, in collaboration with musical associations and institutions across Italy. Partner organizations include the Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna, Fondazione William Walton in Ischia, Amici della Musica di Firenze, Societร Umanitaria in Milan, and the International Music Campus in Latina, among others.
The Second-level Academic Voice Program is authorized by the Italian Ministry of Education, University, and Research under Ministerial Decree No. 1648 of 15/10/2024 (pdf Decreto)
