Jazz ensemble music course

Jazz ensemble music courses for adolescents
The jazz ensemble music course for adolescents at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole welcomes young musicians who are not enrolled in the main instrument courses (drums, guitar, clarinet, saxophone, double bass, electric bass, piano, trumpet, and brass) but who still want to experience jazz ensemble music and to participate in the activities of the schoolโs Jazz department.
The jazz ensemble music lessons provide a comprehensive exploration of historical, stylistic, theoretical, and practical aspects of jazz (focusing on studying fundamental jazz repertoire) and offering a section dedicated to free improvisation in ensemble practice (with open-class lessons).
In addition to these subjects, the three levels of the jazz ensemble music course also address complementary subjects. In line with the schoolโs educational approach, public performances (recitals, concerts) are an essential part of the course, providing an opportunity for jazz ensemble students to assess their skills and grow both personally and in relation to others.
The jazz ensemble music course alternates two main sections in its lessons:
โ Jazz ensemble music, which focuses on fundamental jazz repertoire, with ensembles ranging from duos to sextets;
โ Instant composition, which covers collective improvisation techniques, introducing and refining the various languages and solutions that have characterized the key stages of jazz music over the past century. This section works with open classes of no more than 10 students.
Through the three levels of the jazz ensemble music course, students become increasingly familiar with jazz language and more confident in interacting with their peers, especially in terms of improvisation.
The jazz ensemble music course also includes the study of complementary subjects: jazz harmony, ear training, and jazz music history.
A key component of the jazz ensemble music course for adolescents is public performance. The Scuola di Musica di Fiesole considers these experiences vital for both educational and personal growth, therefore throughout the course recitals, concerts, and meetings are organized for jazz ensemble music students, providing them with valuable opportunities to assess their progress and engage in collaborative musical experiences.
