Clarinet First-Level Degree (Three-Year Course)

Three-year Clarinet Program
Young musicians wishing to pursue advanced studies in a Three-year academic clarinet program will find an engaging and well-structured curriculum at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole. Upon completing the program, students earn the First-level Academic Diploma in Higher Artistic and Musical Education (AFAM), equivalent to a bachelorโs degree.
Under the guidance of experienced teachers, students in the Three-year academic clarinet program refine their instrumental technique, focusing on breathing, sound quality, and the various types of sound production, as well as the emotional aspects of musical performance.
Through this, they learn to express their musical ideas with coherence and originality while gradually acquiring advanced skills that enable them to approach the most representative repertoire of clarinet-family instruments, both in solo and ensemble settings.
The program fosters historical and musical awareness and develops a theoretical understanding of the evolution of compositional structures across different periods, allowing students to honor stylistic distinctions in performance practices of various composers.
The Scuola di Musica di Fiesole offers students of the Three-year academic clarinet program a vibrant schedule of events, including seminars on topics related to musical interpretation and meetings with authors of books in the musical or musicological fields.
A central element is the schoolโs rich and varied concert activities, which regularly involve clarinet students and are fundamental for reinforcing the skills acquired through public performances.
Students in the Three-year academic clarinet program interested in teaching can also take advantage of the schoolโs extensive program of childrenโs courses, which provide opportunities not only for theoretical lessons in teaching methodology but also for internships and collaborative activities.
Additional educational objectives of the clarinet program include improvisation, musical informatics, and proficiency in a second European language.
Through the Erasmus+ program, the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole has established partnerships with prestigious institutions in several European Union countries, offering clarinet students the opportunity to plan a study-abroad experience.
In addition to Erasmus+, the school participates in the SEMP Program (Swiss Exchange Mobility Programme), allowing clarinet students to spend a period of study at one of Switzerlandโs leading music institutions.
Orchestral ensembles dedicated to academic courses, such as the Galilei Orchestra, and chamber groupsโwhether exclusively wind ensembles or various instrumental combinationsโoffer highly formative experiences for clarinet students at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole.
Collaborating with peers in chamber ensembles hones their skills in peer learning, while orchestral activities explore a broad range of repertoires, including symphonic, operatic, and concertos with solo instruments, under the guidance of highly experienced teachers.
Advanced clarinet students are featured in concerts, recitals, and open rehearsals organized by the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole. The school places great emphasis on performance activities as a profoundly formative experience, musically, personally, and socially.
The Three-year academic course provides the following career opportunities for clarinet graduates:
- Solo instrumentalist
