Tuba First-Level Degree (Three-Year Course)

Three-year Academic Tuba Program
Young tubists aspiring to pursue advanced studies at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole can enroll in the Three-year academic tuba program, which leads to the First-level AFAM Academic Diploma (Diploma Accademico di Alta Formazione Artistica e Musicale), equivalent to a bachelorโs degree.
Under the guidance of highly experienced teachers, tuba students refine their instrumental technique by focusing on breathing, sound quality and its different types of production, posture, and emotional control. Their musical thinking is thus expressed coherently, while theoretical courses broaden their competencies, helping them respect stylistic distinctions across various repertoire contexts.
Improvisation, music technology, and a second European language are among the key educational objectives of the advanced tuba program. Improvvisazione, informatica musicale e una seconda lingua comunitaria sono tra gli obiettivi formativi del corso superiore di basso tuba.
The dynamic programming of the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole offers advanced tuba students seminars on interpretation topics and meetings with the authors of musicological publications.
Tuba students also have the unique opportunity to engage in teaching activities through the schoolโs foundational courses. This allows them to combine theoretical lessons in teaching methodology with internships and collaborative experiences. Furthermore, the presence of the Jazz Department enables students to expand their interests and share experiences.
Prestigious institutions in numerous EU countries are connected with the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole through the Erasmus+ program. Tuba students can enhance their educational journey by participating in Erasmus+ exchanges in one of these countries.
Thanks to the Swiss Exchange Mobility Programme (SEMP), tuba students can also arrange mobility to leading musical institutions in Switzerland.
Crucial learning experiences are offered to tuba students through participation in orchestral ensembles, such as the Galilei Orchestra, and chamber music groups, including wind ensembles and other combinations.
Chamber ensembles foster peer-to-peer learning techniques, while orchestral activities allow tuba students to explore diverse languages in the symphonic and operatic repertoires, as well as soloist-accompanied concertos, under the guidance of expert teacher-conductors.
Performance activities are an essential aspect of the educational journey for advanced tuba students. These include concerts, recitals, and open rehearsals, which are instrumental in the musical, personal, and relational growth of the Three-year academic tuba program students.
The skills acquired in the Three-year tuba program at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole open up various career paths, including:
- Solo performer
- Chamber group musician
- Chamber orchestra performer
- Symphonic orchestra performer
- Music theater orchestra musician
- Wind orchestra musician
