Trombone First-Level Degree (Three-Year Course)

Three-year Academic Trombone Program
Young trombone players wishing to undertake higher studies at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole can enroll in the Three-year academic trombone program, which awards the First-level Academic Diploma in Higher Artistic and Musical Education (AFAM), equivalent to a Three-year university degree.
The Three-year academic trombone program guides young musicians, under the mentorship of highly experienced teachers, in refining instrumental technique by focusing on breathing, sound quality and various sound emission techniques, posture, and emotional control. By the end of the program, students will be able to express themselves musically with coherence while respecting the stylistic diversity of the repertoire.
The Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, with its broad range of courses for children, offers students interested in teaching the opportunity to undertake internships in childrenโs courses, putting into practice what they learn in theoretical lessons on teaching methodology.
The presence of the Jazz Department provides opportunities to expand interests and exchange experiences.
The dynamic programming of the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, with in-depth seminars on interpretation and meetings with musicians and authors of musicological publications, offers an additional enrichment opportunity for students in the advanced trombone courses.
Students of the Three-year trombone program at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole can spend a study period abroad at prestigious music institutions in the European Union through the Erasmus+ program, as well as in Switzerland through the SEMP (Swiss Exchange Mobility Programme).
The curriculum for trombone program students includes significant ensemble music experiences, both in orchestral ensembles dedicated to academic courses, such as the Galilei Orchestra, and in chamber groups, including wind-only and mixed ensembles, where students refine peer learning techniques.
Orchestral activities provide opportunities to explore various styles, including symphonic and operatic repertoire, and solo concert works, all under the guidance of expert teacher-conductors.
The Scuola di Musica di Fiesole places great educational value on public performance. For this reason, trombone program students have numerous opportunities to test their skills through concerts, recitals, and open rehearsals, which represent an essential moment of growth not only musically but also personally.
AFAM graduates of the threee-year academic trombone program can find employment in the following areas:
- Solo instrumentalist
- Instrumentalist in chamber music groups
- Instrumentalist in chamber orchestras
- Instrumentalist in symphony orchestras
- Instrumentalist in orchestras for musical theater
