Three-year Academic Cello Program

Il Diploma Accademico di I livello di Alta Formazione Artistica e Musicale (AFAM), equivalente a una laurea universitaria triennale, รจ il traguardo finale del corso accademico triennale di violoncello della Scuola di Musica di Fiesole.
Lโ€™obiettivo forThe First-level Academic Diploma in Higher Artistic and Musical Education (AFAM), equivalent to a bachelorโ€™s degree, is the final goal of the Three-year academic cello program at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole.
The educational objective for young cellists in the academic program is to acquire an advanced instrumental technique and the ability to coherently express their musical ideas.
Equally important are theoretical skills, which include studying the historical evolution and compositional models of musical language, enabling young musicians to approach the cello repertoire with growing interpretative awareness and to stylistically differentiate performance practices for various historical periods.
Improvisation, music informatics, and a second EU language complete the academic cello program, while the vibrant concert activities of the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole allow students to experience various aspects of musical life, consolidating the skills they have acquired.

The Scuola di Musica di Fiesole offers students in advanced courses numerous opportunities to meet leading musicians, as well as an interesting calendar of seminars on musical interpretation.

Thanks to the partnerships established by the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole with prestigious European music institutions, Three-year cello students can participate in the Erasmus+ program, spending a period of study abroad and benefiting from the presence of prestigious foreign professors at the school, for whom the same program is available.
A similar program, SEMP (Swiss-European Mobility Programme), also places the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole among the partners of major music institutions in Switzerland.

Ensemble music is a particularly well-developed activity at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, offering cello students the opportunity to play in orchestral ensembles dedicated to academic courses, such as the Orchestra Galilei and the Camerata Strumentale Fiesolana, in string quartets, and in chamber music groups with piano.
Orchestral activities, led by experienced teacher-conductors, help cello students engage with the various languages of symphonic repertoire and concertos with solo instruments, while studying with peers in chamber ensembles provides important opportunities for growth and refinement of peer learning techniques.

The Scuola di Musica di Fiesole considers performance an essential part of the educational path for young advanced cello students, who have the opportunity to perform in concerts, recitals, and open rehearsals to test their skills and grow musically, personally, and relationally.

The Three-year program offers AFAM cello graduates job opportunities in the following fields:

  • Solo instrumentalist
  • Chamber ensemble instrumentalist
  • Instrumentalist in chamber orchestras
  • Instrumentalist in symphonic orchestras
  • Instrumentalist in orchestras for musical theater
