Collaborative Pianist First-Level Degree (Three-Year Course)

Three-year Academic Program in Collaborative Piano
Young musicians who wish to deepen their expertise in collaborative piano, particularly in the realm of musical theater, can enroll in the Three-year academic program for collaborative pianists. This program leads to the First-level Academic Diploma in Higher Artistic and Musical Education (AFAM), equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.
Throughout the program, students acquire the technical skills, cultural knowledge, and critical awareness necessary to take on the multifaceted role of a collaborative pianist. The curriculum focuses on methodologies for piano accompaniment and vocal part preparation, sight-reading, conducting techniques, and basso continuo practice. These objectives require students to engage in extensive internships and explore the historical, stylistic, and aesthetic aspects of musical language across different eras, with a particular emphasis on opera and musical theater.
Additionally, the curriculum of the three year academic program in collaborative piano includes training in a second European language
The vibrant activities at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, including interpretative seminars and meetings with authors of musicological publications, provide students with opportunities to explore the vocal and operatic repertoire.
Students enrolled in the Three-year academic program in collaborative piano have the opportunity to study abroad, either in a European Union country through the Erasmus+ program or in Switzerland through the SEMP (Swiss Exchange Mobility Programme), which facilitates exchanges between the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole and leading Swiss music institutions.
Thanks to the wide range of courses and activities offered at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, collaborative piano students gain hands-on experience with the vocal repertoire by working with the Vocal Department and choral ensembles. They also participate in annual opera productions organized by the school.
Graduates of the collaborative piano program can pursue careers in the following fields:
- Piano accompanist for vocal, operatic, and chamber repertoire
- Piano accompanist for instrumental repertoire
- All professional roles included in the workforce of opera and symphonic foundations, as outlined in the relevant collective labor agreement (CCNL): assistant stage pianist, rehearsal pianist, lighting master, assistant choir director, stage collaborator, prompter, and rehearsal pianist.
