Lute Course for Adolescents and Early Music Enthusiasts
The Scuola di Musica di Fiesole offers a structured lute course designed for adolescents and early music enthusiasts. This program includes weekly individual lute lessons, complementary courses, and public performance opportunities organized by the school for its students.
The lute, a central instrument of Renaissance and Baroque music, is celebrated for its sweet tone and versatility. Studying the lute today allows students to engage with a remarkable instrumental repertoire, which is increasingly appreciated in concert halls.
The lute curriculum at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole is divided into three progressive modules, each incorporating complementary courses, regular at-home practice and ending with a proficiency exam that certifies the skills acquired. Alternatively, students aged 11 and up may learn to play the lute in a non-curricular course, which does not require final exams but still offers a thorough education in line with the school’s high standards.
The course begins with an introduction to the lute, followed by notions on basic tuning and maintenance practices. Students are guided in establishing correct body and hand positioning, which leads to their first sound production on the lute, initially using open strings and later progressing to simple monophonic pieces.
The Scuola di Musica di Fiesole’s lute course offers a comprehensive approach to instrumental technique, from foundational elements (posture, touch, sound control) to more advanced skills (tablature reading, introduction to basso continuo). These skills are acquired through the program’s three levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Each level includes individual lute lessons, attendance in complementary courses, dedicated home practice and concludes with a certification exam.
Alternatively, students aged 11 and up may choose a non-curricular lute course without proficiency exams.
The Scuola di Musica di Fiesole emphasizes the importance of public performance from the very beginning. Concerts, recitals, and performance opportunities organized for lute students represent a key formative experience, enriching students both musically and personally.
