Three-year Academic Program in Oboe

The Three-year academic program in oboe leads to the First-level Academic Diploma of High Artistic and Musical Education (AFAM), equivalent to a bachelorโ€™s degree.
The Three-year academic program in oboe at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole is designed to refine studentsโ€™ instrumental techniques with expert guidance from experienced teachers. The focus is on sound production quality, breathing techniques, posture, and emotional control.
Through this program, students learn to express their musical thoughts coherently, exploring the most representative repertoires for the oboe family. This provides them with greater historical and musical awareness, which is essential for understanding and respecting stylistic differences across various musical compositions.
The curriculum also includes improvisation, musical informatics, and the study of a second European language.

The Scuola di Musica di Fiesole offers oboe students numerous opportunities for growth beyond their academic studies, including seminars on interpretation, meetings with musicologists, and experiences related to musical theater. These opportunities allow students to engage with various aspects of artistic life.
The broad array of courses for children at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole also provides oboe students with the opportunity to get involved in music education through internships and collaborations.

The Scuola di Musica di Fiesole participates in mobility programs for students of the Three-year academic programs, and thus oboe graduates can spend a period of study abroad:

  • within the European Union, through the Erasmus+ program, which allows students of the Three-year academic program in oboe to study at prestigious musical institutions across the European Union.
  • in Switzerland, through the SEMP (Swiss Exchange Mobility Programme) for exchanges with leading musical institutions.

Music ensemble participation is a key aspect of the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole. Oboe students have the opportunity to perform in orchestral ensembles dedicated to advanced students such as the Orchestra Galilei, as well as in various chamber music groups.
Ensemble rehearsals provide opportunities for peer-to-peer learning, while orchestra activities allow students to explore the various languages of symphonic and operatic repertoire, as well as concertos with solo instruments, all under the guidance of experienced conductor-teachers.

The Scuola di Musica di Fiesole organizes numerous concerts, recitals, and open rehearsals, providing Oboe students with valuable opportunities to consolidate their acquired skills. These events are important moments for both musical and personal growth.

Graduates of the Three-year oboe program can find employment in the following fields:

  • Solo instrumentalist
  • Chamber music performer
  • Orchestral chamber musician
  • Orchestral symphonic musician
  • Orchestral musician for musical theater
  • Woodwind instrumentalist in orchestral ensembles
