S-bandiamo!

Ensemble music course for children and young people (small winds and percussion)
The two-year S-bandiamo! course of the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole aims to introduce primary and lower secondary school students to music through collective teaching and the immediate use of wind and percussion instruments typical of the musical band tradition.
One of the strengths of this ensemble music course for children and young people is the opportunity to start playing small wind instruments and percussion right away. At first, students are able to try all the instruments available, and then choose the one for which each child or young person shows the greatest aptitude (instruments can be rented through the School).
After the initial approach to the instrument, using the Accent on Achievement method, students learn to play by starting from the production of a single sound and then gradually increasing the level of difficulty.
Group interaction and involvement in teamwork are fundamental principles of the project, proving highly effective in creating new motivation for learning.
The S-bandiamo! ensemble music course for children and young people offers a two-year music education path based on an introduction to ensemble playing with wind and percussion instruments typical of the wind band tradition.
Thanks to collective teaching and the immediate use of instruments, children not only learn to play an instrument from the very first lessons, but also develop coordination within a group, thus forming a real wind band.
At the end of the two-year S-bandiamo! program, students who wish to continue studying their instrument are guided toward the basic courses of the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, which include individual lessons and attendance of complementary subjects.
At the beginning of the ensemble music course, all instruments made available by the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole are presented and tried out by the students. Subsequently, each child chooses—also taking into account the teacher’s guidance—the instrument they prefer and for which they are considered most suited.
At the end of the instrument trial phase, an individual meeting is held with the parents, during which teachers explain the characteristics of the instrument for which the child has shown the greatest aptitude. Families then arrange the rental of the instrument and the purchase of the required materials, following the guidance provided.
This initial phase is followed by the true introduction to instrumental practice, leading to the formation of a small “band” through the Accent on Achievement method used in the ORCHESTRANDO project promoted by Yamaha. Students learn to perform exercises and short musical pieces starting from a single sound, gradually increasing the level of difficulty.
The enthusiasm generated by this method and the desire to play together foster genuine teamwork, in which everyone contributes to a shared goal and no one feels excluded.
The 10 instrument lessons focus on the technical fundamentals specific to each instrument and represent a valuable complement to ensemble activity.
The project also includes the possibility of organizing exchanges with other institutions that have chosen to pursue the same type of educational path.
