Flute Second-Level Degree (Two-Year Course)

Two-Year Flute Program for the AFAM Second-Level Diploma
The Two-year Academic Flute Program at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole aims to train highly skilled professionals ready to enter the music industry with qualifications aligned with European standards. This course is open to young flutists who have already obtained a First-level Academic Diploma.
Students in the Two-year Academic Flute Program acquire advanced professional skills that guide them towards earning the AFAM Second-level Diploma, equivalent to a masterโs degree.
The program offers a personalized study path, allowing students to explore various musical languages while refining advanced technical skills (breathing, agility, sound quality). Through a deep understanding of harmonic language โ with particular attention to phrasing, dynamics, and tempo nuances in original scores โ students develop a coherent and expressive musical interpretation.
Under the guidance of highly experienced faculty with diverse concert careers, flute students enhance both their individual abilities and their capacity to perform in chamber ensembles and orchestras.
By exploring musical styles from the Baroque to contemporary repertoire, students in the Two-year Academic Flute Program develop specialized expertise in performance practices. The goal is to enable them to achieve a stylistically informed and conscious interpretation of different repertoires, including an improvisational approach tailored to various historical contexts.
Flute students take part in ensemble music activities, deepening their chamber music training and orchestral score studies. Each year, the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole organizes a variety of artistic projects within the Orchestra Galilei, consistent with the schoolโs educational philosophy that promotes ensemble music in all its forms.
To prepare students for professional careers, the program also includes mock auditions, allowing them to experience orchestral entrance examinations firsthand.
The comprehensive educational offering at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole includes masterclasses led by internationally renowned faculty and concert artists. These advanced courses represent a valuable opportunity for flute students to further enrich their training.
Flute students can expand their knowledge through international mobility programs, spending a study period abroad in various European countries through Erasmus+ and in Switzerland with SEMP. This unique opportunity allows them to explore new themes in interdisciplinary settings relevant to their musical studies.
The most outstanding flute students (selected at the sole discretion of the faculty and the Artistic Director) will be invited to participate in concerts organized by the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole.
These performances take place not only at Villa La Torraccia and prestigious venues in Florence but also throughout Italy, in collaboration with leading musical associations and institutions, including Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna, Fondazione William Walton di Ischia, Amici della Musica di Firenze, Societร Umanitaria di Milano, Campus Internazionale di Musica di Latina.
The Second-level Academic Flute Program is authorized by the Italian Ministry of Education, University, and Research (MIUR) under Ministerial Decree No. 1648 of 15/10/2024 (pdf Decreto)
