Saxophone First-Level Degree (Three-Year Course)

Three-Year Academic Saxophone Program
Young musicians who wish to continue their studies can enroll in the three-year academic saxophone program at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole. Upon completion, they receive the First-Level Academic Diploma in Advanced Artistic and Musical Education (AFAM), equivalent to a Bachelorโs degree.
By attending the three-year saxophone courses, students progressively acquire advanced skills, enabling them to approach the most representative repertoire for alto saxophone and to explore the expressive potential of other saxophones (soprano, tenor, and baritone).
Thanks to lessons from highly experienced teachers, students refine their instrumental technique by working on breathing, sound quality and its various types of production, as well as on the emotional aspects of musical performance. This allows them to develop the tools necessary to express their musical ideas with coherence and originality.
The three-year saxophone program includes studies in improvisation, musical informatics, and a second EU language.
At the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, saxophone students have access to seminars on topics related to musical interpretation and events featuring authors of musicology books. Additionally, the schoolโs rich and diverse concert schedule allows them to consolidate their skills through public performance.
For saxophone students interested in music education, the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole offers not only theoretical lessons in teaching methodology but also opportunities for internships and collaborations in courses for children held at the School.
Through the Erasmus+ program, the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole has established partnerships with prestigious institutions in several European Union countries, allowing saxophone students to spend a study period abroad.
In addition to participating in the European Erasmus+ program, the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole is also part of the SEMP (Swiss Exchange Mobility Programme), which enables students to study at leading music institutions in Switzerland.
The Scuola di Musica di Fiesole offers numerous opportunities for saxophone students to engage in highly formative group experiences. They can also benefit from participating in the Eรฒs Saxophone Project, where they explore various musical languages through a dynamic program.
Performance activities are an essential aspect of the musical, human, and relational growth of young saxophonists in the advanced courses. They take part in concerts, recitals, and open rehearsals.
After completing the three-year program, saxophone graduates have the following career opportunities:
- Solo instrumentalist
- Instrumentalist in chamber music ensembles
- Instrumentalist in symphonic orchestras
- Instrumentalist in orchestras for musical theater
- Instrumentalist in wind ensembles
