Francesco Dillon – 4 sessions (2 lessons per month) + 1 period with Bonomini

The annual postgraduate course in cello at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, taught by Paolo Bonomini and Francesco Dillon and aimed at young cellists holding a pre-reform (Vecchio Ordinamento) diploma or a first-level AFAM diploma, is divided into eight sessions and addresses technique, styles, and repertoire from the Baroque to the present day.

Young cellists enrolled in this high-level training program will enhance their instrumental and musical skills also by taking part in public concerts and other performance opportunities organized by the school as an integral part of the postgraduate course.

For the most deserving students, the school offers scholarships awarded through an internal annual competition held in April/May.

The excellent educational quality of the postgraduate cello course opens the door to high-level professional opportunities in the music field for talented young cellists.

The postgraduate course in cello is intended for musicians who have obtained a pre-reform (Vecchio Ordinamento) diploma or a first-level AFAM diploma. Exceptionally talented students who have not yet earned these qualifications may also be admitted.
The course will be activated if a minimum number of students is reached.
Auditors are accepted.

The postgraduate course in cello with Paolo Bonomini and Francesco Dillon explores aspects of the interpretative process such as:

  • a personal and original reading through a rigorous and informed approach to the score;
  • bow technique: speed, density, distribution, expansion of imagination, and sound range;
  • eloquence and rhetoric: pursuing a singing quality but also the infinite articulations of speech.

The best students, at the teachers’ sole discretion, will take part in recitals organized for them during the year.

To be admitted to the postgraduate course in cello, candidates must present:

  • one movement from a Bach Suite;
  • one study (Popper, Piatti, Servais) or a virtuoso piece representative of the candidate’s technical level;
  • the first movement of a concerto or sonata of their choice.
