Postgraduate piano course

Teacher: Andrea Lucchesini – 16 sessions, with lessons every two weeks
Visiting professor: Massimiliano Ferrati – dates to be confirmed

The annual postgraduate piano course of the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole is designed for young graduate pianists who wish to embark on a path of awareness not only as pianists but also as musicians and artists in a broader sense, under the guidance of a teacher with extensive teaching and concert experience.
In addition to improving their instrumental and musical preparation and their knowledge of piano repertoire, students have the opportunity to test their skills in numerous public concerts organized by the School, which are considered an integral part of the educational program.
The School awards scholarships to the most deserving students, assigned through an annual internal competition (March–April).
Thanks to the course’s high quality, the postgraduate piano course offers excellent career opportunities in the music field for talented young pianists, preparing them for professional activities of the highest level.

The postgraduate piano course is open to young pianists (up to 26 years old) who hold a pre-reform (Vecchio Ordinamento) diploma or a first-level academic diploma (AFAM). Exceptionally gifted students who are not yet graduates may also be admitted.
The course includes differentiated lessons based on the students’ profile:

  1. Students with excellent technical preparation will attend lessons with the main teacher.
  1. Students who need technical improvement and study support (at the sole discretion of the teacher) will have one additional one-hour session per month with Enrico Stellini, on the same day as one of the lessons with Andrea Lucchesini.

The course will only run if a minimum number of students is reached.
Auditors are welcome.

The program of the postgraduate piano course focuses on the interpretation of piano repertoire, aiming to help young musicians develop their artistic awareness, refine their technical and virtuosic skills, and explore the stylistic elements related to various performance practices.

A tailored and individualised approach guides each student in understanding the formal structure of the works studied, supporting them in developing a personal and coherent artistic voice.

Special attention is dedicated to:sound perception, mastering the various types of gestures needed to shape the musical idea into a specific sound quality, achieving natural expressiveness through legato, cultivating relaxed movements to avoid tension and strain, pedal technique and its artistic applications.

Applicants for the postgraduate piano course must present the following program:

  1. Two studies by Chopin, or one by Chopinand one chosen from Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Debussy.
  2. One Sonata by Mozart, Beethoven, or Schubert (candidate’s choice).
