Basic Saxophone Courses

Saxophone Course for Children and Adolescents
The saxophone course at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole offers a training path that allows young students to absorb the full cultural and emotional benefits of music. From the start, engagement is core, and thus group activities are used to foster essential stimulation for learning.
To learn to play the saxophone, students without prior musical knowledge are offered shared lessons in small groups with the SuonInsieme program. Individual saxophone lessons are also available for everyone.
In both formats, alongside the complementary courses outlined in the curriculum, ensemble activities play a central role. Students can participate in saxophone ensembles suited to their skill level, gaining experience in group performance.
Additionally, students aged 11 and up can enroll in a non-curricular saxophone course, with no exams required.ร anche possibile iscriversi a un corso libero di saxofono (etร minima 11 anni), che non prevede esami di profitto.
In the saxophone course for children, learning begins with GiocoSax, a method developed in-house for preschool-aged children. To accommodate young learners theachers use curved soprano saxophones, resembling toys, in order to allow children to start exploring and producing sounds while incorporating rhythm exercises.
The saxophone course offers flexible options based on age and prior musical experience. The SuonInsieme program, featuring shared lessons for beginners aged 5 to 10, is ideal for those with no previous experience. All students may also opt for individual lessons within the pre-academic saxophone courses.
Central to every saxophone lessons is ensemble play, where students study and participate in saxophone repertoire formations like duets, trios, quartets, and classic ensembles. Mixed small-group compositions are also introduced, integrating saxophones with other instruments.
The pre-academic saxophone curriculum includes three levels โ basic, intermediate, and advanced โ each with certification exams and mandatory complementary courses.
For students aged 11 and up, the school offers a non-curricular saxophone course with no exams required.
Intensive musical research has led to the development of structured training for various age groups in the saxophone course, allowing all students to take part in live musical productions. Three stable ensembles have thus been established:
- Pollicini: for young children up to 4th/5th grade
- Mikrokosmos: from middle school to high school
- Eos Saxophone Project: for high school students and beyond, including those in the final three years and teachers.
Public performance opportunities, beginning from the early stages of the saxophone course, are essential growth milestones for studentsโ musical and personal development.
For younger children, the school recommends a preparatory course to ease them into saxophone study. The Musicami program, based on E. Gordonโs Music Learning Theory, serves children aged 0 to 6, while rhythm-choral activities cater to children aged 3 to 9.
