“…endless undertones while exploring the preciousness of Debussy’s enchanting sound atmosphere, a fascinating mix of warmth and fine technique in Ravel’s Tombeau de Couperin, his memorable passionate coolness in the waving and shallow transcription of the Valse…” Salzburger Nachrichten
“…Cominati’s piano playing is every time the revelation of a superior charisma. The magnificence of his sound, the transparency of the classical form, the touching Schubert repertoire, all joined into a time-suspended vision, like the sonata form in “Winterreise”…” Rivista Musica
Appreciated worldwide for his refined touch and nuanced sound, Roberto Cominati has established himself on the musical scene as a careful and charismatic interpreter of the complete works of French composer Maurice Ravel.
Winner of the famous Premio “Busoni” in Bolzano, Italy, that introduced him to the international press, Cominati has studied with Aldo Ciccolini and Franco Scala. He has received the Premio “Casella” in Naples in 1991, and Prix Jacques Stehman from the audience of RTFB and TV5 France in 1999, within Brussels’ Councours Reine Elisabeth.
He is often invited by the most important Italian musical institutions such as Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Teatro Comunale in Bologna, La Fenice in Venice, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, San Carlo in Naples, the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai, and various festivals such as Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, Settimane Musicali di Stresa, and the Festival of Brescia and Bergamo.
He has performed in some of the world’s most prestigious halls, including Salzburg Festival, Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Gasteig in Munich, Konzerthaus in Berlin, Staatsoper in Hamburg and Dresden, Monnaie in Brussels, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and – among the many cities – in Sidney, Washington, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires.
Some of the conductors he has worked with are Sir Simon Rattle, Daniele Gatti, Andrey Boreyko, Michele Mariotti, Leon Fleischer, Danier Harding, Mikhail Pletnev, Yuri Ahronovitch, Aleksander Lazerev, David Robertson, and Gabriele Ferro.
His vast repertoire, focusing mainly on composers of the 19th and 20th centuries, includes a special interest for piano transcriptions, such as the ones by Russian Leopol’d Godovskij.
Highlights of the next season include concerts and recitals in the main Italian halls (Torino, Palermo, Milano, Bologna, Rome) as well as his New York debut.
Under the label EMI he has released a CD in which he interprets Robert Schumann’s Carnaval, Op. 9 and a selection by Claude Debussy; one CD containing piano music by Pëtr Il’i
Čajkovskij and Carl Maria von Weber; and a double CD, released by the magazine Amadeus, including the complete piano works by Maurice Ravel. The last CD under Acousence is dedicated to Bach’s and Handel’s piano transcriptions.
