Sound Engineering First-Level Degree (Three-Year Course)

Three-year Academic Course in Sound Engineering
For those who wish to gain advanced skills in sound reproduction and recording, the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole offers a higher education program that grants the First-level Academic Diploma in Advanced Artistic and Musical Training (AFAM), equivalent to a Three-year university degree.
Through the Three-year academic program in sound engineering, students acquire specific technical and cultural knowledge, enabling them to realize their own artistic ideas as well as other peopleโs.
The course places particular emphasis on the study of musical repertoireโboth historical and contemporaryโand the exploration of analytical methodologies, including the history of electroacoustic and computer technologies applied to music.
Equally important in the educational path of a sound engineer is the refinement of skills such as auditory perception and memory capacity.
Sound recording lessons for the Three-year sound engineering program are held at DPoT Recording Arts in Prato, one of the most prestigious recording studios, which features a multifunctional facility with a large hall and two audio control rooms equipped with state-of-the-art digital and analog devices.
Upon completion of the Three-year sound engineering program, students will have acquired an in-depth understanding of general historical and aesthetic aspects; specific skills in the use of electroacoustic and computer equipment and technologies; design and management capabilities for recording projects across all types of repertoire and ensembles.
Students enrolled in the Three-year sound engineering program can participate in the Erasmus+ program, allowing them to spend a study period abroad in many European Union countries.
The Swiss Exchange Mobility Programme (SEMP) also enables sound engineering students to carry out exchanges at leading music institutions in Switzerland.
Career prospects for sound engineering graduates include the following fields:
- musical professions connected to multimedia events;
- musical professions linked to sound technologies (for recording, television, and radio production);
- music production assistant;
- sound editor.
