Founded in 2015, the Orchestra MicroMusici welcomes beginner instrumentalists in their first year of violin, cello or piano. Since 2019, it has also included double bass players. For these young musicians, it is their first collective instrumental experience offered as part of the School’s programme, and it is designed to gradually introduce them to the Piccolissimi Musici Orchestra, led by the same group of teachers. The only requirement for taking part is the desire to play with others.
The primary aim is to stimulate children through the experience of making music in a group, as collective lessons increase motivation and the desire to learn. Learning takes place mainly through imitation, without the use of scores. Drawing on the repertoire of different instrumental teaching methods, the group is introduced to simple musical pieces which, with piano accompaniment, are developed through singing, gestures and rhythm. Each year, a fairy tale is selected and the Orchestra works towards a small musical production, adapted by the teachers to the ensemble and the characteristics of the group.
Course structure
Participation in the Orchestra MicroMusici is also open to students from outside the School, for string instruments only (violin, cello and double bass), subject to availability of places.
The course is intended for beginner children approximately between 5 and 10 years old.
