Tuscany Inclusive Symphony Orchestra using the Esagramma® Method
Music breaks down barriers: the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole is proud to launch a new area of educational activity designed to encourage the participation of students with motor and intellectual disabilities.
The project, called the Tuscany Inclusive Symphony Orchestra using the Esagramma® Method, is funded by the European Community as part of Erasmus+ activities. It involves the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole working with Fondazione Spazio Reale and leading European partners, while the methodological and practical contribution is provided by Fondazione Sequeri Esagramma. The latter has developed a programme called Inclusive Orchestral Education, which harnesses the potential of musical language and the orchestral environment to achieve important outcomes, such as strengthening self-image, expanding and processing one’s emotional experience, and discovering more complex and varied ways of relating to others.
Being part of the orchestra therefore represents an opportunity for educational inclusion that is more effective than individual support, thanks to music’s ability to act in depth at every level, both emotional and cognitive. Participants in the Tuscany Inclusive Symphony Orchestra using the Esagramma® Method are not required to have any previous musical knowledge, and there are no particular personal characteristics that prevent anyone from taking part in the musical education programme.
