Fiesole Harmonie

Fiesole Harmonie is the wind and percussion ensemble of the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole. Conducted by Daniele Cantafio, it includes all the wind instruments and percussion instruments taught in the School’s foundation courses.

The ensemble brings together students of different ages and playing abilities. The project’s distinctive feature is the integration of students at different levels, which helps create a cohesive and welcoming environment for beginners while offering more experienced students a stimulating experience in which they play an active supporting role.

Rehearsals initially take place in separate sections, organised according to instrumental level, to ensure focused work on repertoire and technique. Students work together on challenging aspects such as tone production, intonation and sound quality, all of which can be particularly demanding to master in the early stages of learning a wind instrument. As each group reaches a good standard of performance, it joins the others to refine and complete the work together.

Fiesole Harmonie’s repertoire includes classical music, focusing mainly on Bach, whose works are particularly effective in developing intonation and harmonic awareness; chamber music for wind instruments; opera arias; and a more contemporary section featuring pop and jazz pieces.

Another important aspect of the project is its ongoing collaboration with other departments and ensembles at the School, including the singing classes, the jazz department and the Crescendo Molto string ensemble. These collaborations enable students to develop an increasingly broad range of musical skills.

Fiesole Harmonie is open to:
– Students from basic courses (level 3) to Advanced Level
– Students enrolled in open courses, provided they have an equivalent level of proficiency
– External students with an equivalent level of proficiency

Rehearsals take place every Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
