Founded in 1987 on the initiative of Piero Farulli, founder of the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, the choir currently consists of around 50 adult singers. The choir’s study and preparation are overseen by a musical team coordinated by Fabio Lombardo. The choir mainly focuses on the study of the oratorio repertoire. Throughout its concert activity, the choir has been conducted by various musicians, including S. Accardo, R. Alessandrini, M. Ceccanti, A. Curtis, A. Fedi, L. Fico, V. Globokar, F. Lombardo, N. Paszkowski, A. Pinzauti and F.M. Sardelli.
Since its debut in July 1989, when it inaugurated the 42nd Estate Fiesolana, the choir has devoted itself to studying and performing the great oratorios of the Eighteenth century, including G.F. Handel’s Messiah (in its complete version) and J.S. Bach’s Weihnachtsoratorium, as well as modern premieres of previously unknown works, such as F.B. Conti’s David. In May 1998, the choir took part in the International Contemporary Music Festival in Saarbrücken, performing works by Vinko Globokar under the composer’s direction.
In 1999 in Milan, as part of the complete cycle of Bach’s cantatas organised by the Società del Quartetto, the choir performed J.S. Bach’s three Cantatas for St John, receiving considerable acclaim. This success was repeated in Florence in December 2001.
In recent years, the choir has given several concerts in Spain, France, Germany and Turkey. Over almost 25 years of concert activity, it has performed an extensive and carefully selected oratorio repertoire ranging from the Eighteenth to the Twentieth century, including works by contemporary composers. Its achievements include several television recordings for RAI and a CD featuring César Franck’s exceptionally rare oratorio Redemption, for soloists, choir and orchestra.
Regular study sessions take place on Mondays and Thursdays from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at the Scuola di Musica.
