Art Bonus

The Scuola di Musica di Fiesole is among the institutions eligible for the Art Bonus scheme, which makes supporting cultural and artistic activities advantageous for donors.

Introduced on a permanent basis by the Italian legislator in 2016, the Art Bonus provides all those who make donations in support of culture and the performing arts with a 65% tax credit within the calendar year, with the aim of encouraging cultural philanthropy and supporting the preservation and enhancement of the artistic heritage.

An additional benefit for donors wishing to support the school is the regional Art Bonus scheme – specifically designed for businesses and organisations operating in Tuscany – a tax incentive introduced by the Region of Tuscany through the Regional Law no. 18 of 5 April 2017. This scheme provides those who make donations in support of cultural projects or projects aimed at enhancing the region’s heritage and landscape with an additional IRAP tax credit equal to 40% of the amount donated (if the donation is not already eligible for the national Art Bonus because it concerns a specific regional project) and 20% of the amount donated if the donation also benefits from the national Art Bonus, bringing the total percentage to 85%.

The regional Art Bonus scheme of Tuscany is available to businesses, self-employed professionals and foundations (including banking foundations) that have a territorial connection with the region, namely a registered office or permanent establishment (operating office) in Tuscany.

The application for recognition of the tax credit must be submitted through the regional portal, ensuring that the year of the donation coincides with the year in which the application is submitted.

Through these legislative mechanisms, individuals and businesses can support the school’s activities and contribute to the organisation of the Mousikè Festival. As a beneficiary of Art Bonus donations, the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole publishes the amount of donations received on this page

Article 1 of Legislative Decree No. 83 of May 31, 2014, which entered into force on June 1, 2014, and was converted into Law No. 106 of July 29, 2014, updated by the 2015 Stability Law (Marcucci Amendment) and subsequent provisions of the 2016 Stability Law, introduced a tax credit (“Art Bonus”) to encourage donations of money to support culture and entertainment by individuals and legal entities.

Donations may be allocated to:
✔ maintenance, protection and restoration of publicly owned cultural heritage;
✔ support for publicly owned cultural institutions and cultural venues, opera-symphony foundations and traditional theatres;
✔ construction of new facilities, restoration and enhancement of existing facilities belonging to public non-profit bodies or institutions that operate exclusively in the performing arts.

The tax credit is available to all those who make donations in support of culture and the performing arts, regardless of the legal status of the donor.
The tax incentive provides for a tax credit equal to 65% of the donation.
Different maximum limits apply to the tax credit depending on the status of the donor. In particular:
✔ for individuals and entities that do not carry out commercial activities, the tax credit is recognised up to a limit of 15% of taxable income;
✔ for entities deriving business income, the tax credit is recognised up to a limit of 5 per thousand of annual revenues.

The Art Bonus tax credit can be used in three equal annual instalments:
✔ Businesses: through the F24 form by way of tax offsetting (code 6842).
✔ Individuals and non-commercial entities: in the tax return.

The tax credit:
✔ does not contribute to the taxable base for income tax purposes, including related regional and municipal surcharges;
✔ does not contribute to determining the net production value for IRAP purposes;
✔ is not taken into account when determining the deductible portion of interest expenses from business income pursuant to Article 61 of the TUIR;
✔ it is not relevant for the purpose of determining the portion of expenses and other negative components other than interest expense, deductible from business income, pursuant to Article 109, paragraph 5, of the Consolidated Income Tax Act (TUIR).
