Masterclass in baroque violin and early chamber music at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole

Teacher: Enrico Onofri – 1 session

The baroque violin and early chamber music masterclass taught by Enrico Onofri offers young instrumentalists the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of early chamber music under the guidance of a multifaceted artist who has explored the repertoire from the seventeenth to the twentieth century, developing a personal style based on rigorous study of the earliest performance practices, a source of inspiration for new ideas and interpretative horizons.

A very young violinist performing alongside Jordi Savall and Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Enrico Onofri was one of the founding members of Il Giardino Armonico, the ensemble in which he served as concertmaster and soloist until 2010. In recent years he has established himself as a conductor in some of the most prestigious theatres, received the 2019 Abbiati Prize as best soloist of the year, and obtained numerous prestigious recording awards for his extensive discography.

The baroque violin and early music lessons taught by Enrico Onofri and organized by the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole offer a valuable opportunity to explore not only historically informed performance practice, but also to engage with an approach to the repertoire characterized by flexibility, plasticity, transparency, articulation, and breadth.

The baroque violin and early music masterclass with Onofri takes place at the enchanting Villa Demidoff in Pratolino, on the hills of Florence. Students may stay at the Villa’s guesthouse (subject to availability and at a modest cost), spending several days immersed in the greenery of one of the world’s most renowned historic parks. The masterclass will be activated once a minimum number of participants is reached.

At the end of the baroque violin and early music masterclass, the Red Hall of the Villa’s Paggeria hosts the Mousikè concerts, the international festival of the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, in which students may take part upon the teacher’s invitation.

Focus on seventeenth-century violin repertoire from its earliest stages up to Corelli, with an opening toward later repertoire, not limited to the Italian tradition.
