Florian Donderer – Violin Masterclass

Violin masterclass at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole
Teacher: Florian Donderer – 1 session
Collaborative pianist: Livia Zambrini
The violin and chamber music masterclass taught by Florian Donderer for the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole is an intensive course during which young violinists can refine their instrumental skills and deepen their knowledge of the repertoire under the guidance of a versatile and passionate musician with extensive pedagogical experience.
Principal violinist of the renowned Signum Quartet, Florian Donderer combines chamber music activity with work as konzertmeister for leading ensembles such as the Irish Chamber Orchestra, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, and the Kammerorchester Basel.
Formerly a professor at the Hanzehogeschool Groningen and regularly invited to give masterclasses in violin, chamber music, and orchestral performance at prestigious European institutions (including the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, the Royal Academy of Music in Dublin, the Musik-Akademie Basel, the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music / JVLMA, and the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre), Florian Donderer collaborates with distinguished colleagues such as Paavo Järvi, Viktoria Mullova, Elisabeth Leonskaja, Steven Isserlis, Alexander Lonquich, Matthias Goerne, and Tanja and Christian Tetzlaff.
The lessons will address technical aspects of violin playing (intonation, bow control, physical gesture, and the reduction of tension while playing), as well as topics related to phrasing, dynamics, and interpretative coherence in relation to the historical periods of the works studied.
The violin masterclass by Florian Donderer takes place at the Paggeria and the Scuderie of Villa Demidoff in Pratolino. Students may also stay at the Villa’s guesthouse (foresteria) at a reasonable cost (subject to availability), placing the masterclass experience within a unique setting rich in history and artistic and natural beauty.
The masterclass will take place upon reaching a minimum number of participants.
The prestigious culmination of the violin masterclass is represented by the concerts of Mousikè, the international festival of the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, which will be held in the Red Hall of the Paggeria at Villa Demidoff.
