Ivan Podyomov – Oboe Masterclass

First oboe of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam since 2016, Ivan Podyomov has frequently performed as guest principal oboist with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, Orchestra Mozart in Bologna, and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Bernard Haitink, Riccardo Chailly, and Claudio Abbado.

Winner of the ARD International Music Competition in Munich in 2011 (the last in a series of prestigious first prizes including the Geneva Competition and the “Sony” Competition in Karuizawa, Japan), Ivan Podyomov teaches at the Hochschule in Lucerne.

Podyomov’s lessons focus on technical and performance aspects, with particular attention to the quality of tone and phrasing, to the balance between physical gesture and musical sense, and to the appropriate performance practices for the different historical periods of the works studied.

The oboe masterclass with Ivan Podyomov takes place at Villa Demidoff in Pratolino, on the hills north of Florence, where young oboists may also stay in the Villa’s guesthouse at a reasonable cost (subject to availability), living for several days in a Medici complex of extraordinary beauty, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The masterclass will be activated upon reaching a minimum number of participants.

The experience of the oboe masterclass is further enriched by the Mousikè concerts, the international festival of the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, held in the splendid Red Hall of the Paggeria.
