Violin masterclass at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole

Teacher: Sergej Krylov
Collaborative pianist: Livia Zambrini

The violin masterclass of the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole taught by Sergej Krylov is a valuable opportunity to deepen violin skills both from the perspective of performance technique and expressiveness, under the guidance of a musician with explosive virtuosity and great interpretative depth.

Musical Director of the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, violinist Sergej Krylov regularly assumes the dual role of soloist and conductor, tackling a repertoire ranging from Baroque to contemporary music.

A violinist of ardent lyricism and intense timbral beauty, Sergej Krylov is a high-profile interpreter on the international scene, performing alongside leading conductors such as Jury Temirkanov, Mstislav Rostropovich, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Marin Alsop, Ton Koopman, Vasily Petrenko, Mikhail Pletnëv, Andrey Boreyko, Andris Poga, Tõnu Kaljuste, Vladimir Jurowski, Osmo Vänskä, Karel Chichon, and Fabio Luisi.

Sergej Krylov’s discography includes, among others, recordings for Deutsche Grammophon and Sony Classical, the world premiere recording of Ezio Bosso’s Violin Concerto Esoconcerto, and the Violin Concerto Metamorphosen by Krzysztof Penderecki conducted by the composer himself.

Young violinists participating in the violin masterclass of the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole have the opportunity to carry out in-depth work on instrumental technique with the aim of realizing their musical ideas in a coherent and personal manner. At the same time, the lessons aim to enhance interpretative skills in performing the works studied, with due respect for historical-performance awareness across the different repertoires.

Villa Demidoff in Pratolino is an ancient Medici complex on the hills north of Florence, of which several valuable buildings and a splendid park remain. The magnificent rooms of the Paggeria host Sergej Krylov’s violin masterclass.

Students may stay in the Villa’s guesthouse — at a reasonable cost and subject to availability — fully enjoying special days immersed in music, visual art, and natural beauty.

The masterclass will be activated upon reaching a minimum number of enrollments.

Culminating the activities of the violin masterclass is the final concert held in the Sala Rossa of the Paggeria as part of the Mousikè Festival, organized by the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, in which young violinists attending the masterclass may take part upon the teacher’s recommendation.
