Cello masterclass at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole
Teacher: Xenia Janković – 1 session
Collaborative pianist: Aglaia Tarantino
The cello masterclass taught by Xenia Janković brings young instrumentalists into contact with a musician of great experience, from whom they can learn new insights into performance practice and a historically coherent interpretative approach.
Xenia Janković trained with some of the most celebrated artists of the twentieth century. Born in Serbia, she studied with Mstislav Rostropovich, Pierre Fournier, and André Navarra, also receiving valuable guidance from György Sebök and Sandor Vegh.
She is passionately devoted to chamber music and is a member of the Hamlet Piano Trio, which alternates between modern and period instruments; she has made recordings of piano trios by Mendelssohn, Beethoven, and Schubert. She is a cello teacher at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold.
In the lessons of Xenia Janković’s masterclass, young cellists will engage with a teacher of great experience and dedicated commitment, with whom they can explore not only cello technique but also issues related to a historically informed interpretative approach.
The cello masterclass of the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole taught by Xenia Janković takes place in the spaces of the enchanting Villa Demidoff in Pratolino, on the hills of Florence, a Medici complex renowned worldwide for its park, where Renaissance sculptures are complemented by beautiful natural vistas. Students may also stay in the Villa’s guesthouse, available subject to availability at a modest cost.
The masterclass will be activated upon reaching a minimum number of participants.
In the splendid Red Hall of the Paggeria of Villa Demidoff, at the conclusion of the masterclasses, the concert activities of Mousikè, the international festival of the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, take place, in which students may participate upon the teacher’s recommendation.
