Chiara Tonelli and Claudia Bucchini, two leading musicians in the concert world, share the teaching of the postgraduate flute course at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, offering young flutists the opportunity to broaden their musical training and knowledge of the flute repertoire under the guidance of two authoritative and experienced teachers.
The course consists of eight sessions – four with each of the two teachers – distributed regularly throughout the year to ensure continuity and effectiveness in the educational process.
The concerts organised by the School for students enrolled in the advanced flute course are an integral part of the training program and provide an important opportunity to experience performing for an audience and to share interpretative choices with listeners.
An annual internal competition (March/April) offers scholarships to the most deserving students enrolled in the advanced courses.
The aim of the course is to support each student’s artistic and professional development by offering a dynamic and stimulating program in close contact with the concert world and the music profession.
The program of the advanced flute course is designed to provide comprehensive technical and artistic training and includes:
- group lessons devoted to instrumental technique and breathing;
- in-depth study of solo and chamber repertoire;
- mock auditions, i.e. simulations of orchestral auditions;
- a focus on the piccolo, at the students’ request, with particular attention to performance technique, intonation and orchestral repertoire.
Where possible, students are invited to attend some sessions together with their chamber music partners, allowing them to develop ensemble work on the chamber repertoire they are preparing.
Throughout the year, sessions with internationally renowned guest teachers are also scheduled, further enriching the educational program with specialist study.
The postgraduate flute course is primarily intended for musicians holding a pre-reform (Vecchio Ordinamento) diploma or a first-level AFAM diploma. Exceptionally talented young musicians or groups who do not yet hold these qualifications may also be admitted.
Auditors are accepted.
The admission audition for the postgraduate flute course requires each applicant to perform the first and second movements of either Mozart’s Concerto in G major, K. 313, or Concerto in C major, K. 314, together with a piece of the candidate’s choice.
